How do I wash my cotton clothes?
The sun☀️ is shining and the birds🐦 are chirping—what could be nicer than washing clothes and letting them dry outside in the morning breeze? This morning, I grabbed my laundry basket🧺, and the laundry is now drying in the light breeze. Then I got the idea to share with you how I best wash my cotton dresses from the apfelgrün collection👚👖👕.
Caring for the fabric begins before the creative phase…
After the difficult purchasing decisions about which color and print the cotton should have for the upcoming collection, I wash it at 30 degrees. 30 meters at a time in the washing machine is still quite manageable. Who knows what this fiber has been through on its way to me. Furthermore, cotton can shrink up to 5% in the wash, which doesn't happen with a finished fabric. After that, the sewing project can finally begin.
Cotton is a great fiber that's easy to wash and care for, feels great, and lasts a long time. Washing clothes inside out helps. This prevents friction with other fabrics in the drum and protects other garments as well. To keep the color🎨 of your clothes beautiful, you can add a little white wine vinegar🍾 to the wash. This also prevents limescale from building up in your washing machine. Before hanging up clothes directly after the wash cycle, be sure to shake them out thoroughly and smooth them out. This minimizes creases and makes ironing easier. By the way, the hanger method is especially good for those who don't like ironing. Shirts, blouses, trousers, dresses—anything that goes damp on a hanger and dries there will wrinkle far less.
And last but not least, can I tumble dry cotton? Yes, just pay attention to the temperature label.
